Why perform a Shear Stress Test?
Brake pads are a critical safety component in any vehicle, and ensuring their quality is paramount for reliable braking performance. One of the key tests used in the quality assurance in the factory would be the shear stress test. It tests the durability and adhesive strength of the brake pad material under conditions that simulate real-world usage, ultimately ensuring that the brake pads are meeting industrial standards before reaching your hands.
What is Shear Stress Test?
Shear stress refers to the force per unit area applied parallel to the surface of a material. In the context of brake pads, it tests how well the friction material holds together when subjected to the lateral forces that occur during braking. It determines the durability of the adhesive material when the brake was applied when you are braking in any conditions, this test is crucial because the integrity of these materials directly impacts the brake pad's effectiveness and safety.
How does our factory perform the Shear Stress Test?
The shear stress test for brake pads involves applying a lateral force to a sample of the brake material until it fails or shears off. This process mimics the real-world forces that brake pads encounter during daily usage, particularly in high-stress situations like emergency stops or prolonged braking down a slope.
A Shear Stress Test machine will apply a lateral force to the brake pads to mimic when the brake pedal is applied and the caliper is applying pressure to the brake pad. There would be deviation of different brake pads across different manufacturer but it would always meet the industrial standard. We, Brake X, will work closely with our manufacturing partner in ensuring that the brake pads would be of the highest quality of standards when sent out from us, ensuring that you will be getting your brake pads in safe manners and be readily available for any unpredictable situations.
Shear Stress Test is surely one of the vital tests to be performed during the manufacturing process. It helps us ensure each batch of the products released by Brake X could meet your demands in real-world driving situations and braking at it's excellence.
